Volunteer Descriptions
Clerk of Course: Line up swimmers in heat/lanes for upcoming events. Supervise swimmers as they wait for their event.
Computer Operator: Away meets only. Enters both times for swimmers and DQ slips into Meet Manager software and generates labels for ribbons. You must be trained for this position in order to sign up for it. It is best for one person to work the entire meet.
Head Timer: Ensures all Timers are present. Fill in for Timers who are missing or need a break. Runs back-up stopwatches in case a timer fails to start their watch or their watch malfunctions.
Heat Ribbons: Hands out Heat Winner ribbons to the winner of each heat for 10 and under individual events. (25s) Relays do NOT earn a Heat Ribbon. Hands out “I Did My Best” ribbons to Shrimpers.
Refreshment Runner: Makes sure all meet volunteers (from both teams) receive water and snacks.
Ribbon Writers: Attaches labels to ribbons as they are printed by the computer operators. Also sorts ribbons by team. This can be done after the swim meet the next day at swim practice.
Runner: Takes timers sheets from Timers and DQ slips (at home meets) from Stroke and Turn Judges and brings them to the computer table.
Stroke and Turn Judge: Must be trained as a Stroke and Turn Judge. Judge swimmers’ relay take offs, arm strokes, kicks, turns, and finishes. You must be trained to sign up for this position.
Timer: Stands at the end of assigned lane with a timer to time the swimmer in the lane. BCC uses dolphin timers which automatically record time in the computer. Other teams may use a stopwatch and timer will hand write times. At Home meets, one Timer holds dolphin and stopwatch, other Timer holds dolphin and clipboard to record times. Must attend Timer Meeting prior to the start of each meet.
